Music Marketing Blog Post

Approach Going into this project:

Immediately after getting assigned this project, I created a schedule for me and my group members to follow in order to get this project done in time before February 1st. We broke up this project into 5 chronological parts: (Music Marketing Research Chart), (Story Board/Music Video planning), (Music Video Filming), (Music Marketing Campaign/Branding), PowerPoint Presentation. We chose this order as each fall into a snowballing effect such that the storyboard and music video planning help us to create the actual final product of the video. and the Music marketing campaign and branding helps us to create our PowerPoint presentation to show the class. After we finish compiling all our research and get all of our things together, we will put it all into the PowerPoint in an orderly fashion so that our research and ideas can get through the class in a straightforward and direct way. My group and I feel that creating a schedule and dividing the project up into 5 parts is the best way to get it all done before the due date.

Music Research Chart:

My process while creating the Music Marketing project has been going pretty smooth as my group only has had 2 obstacles to face during our project. Our music genre was Rock, and we chose the song "My name is human." In Our music marketing research chart, we had trouble finding artists/bands that have released music in the past 5 years as many of the rock artists we were looking through were already in their 40s/50s so finding the younger rock artists that were associated with the two major companies such as Sony Music Entertainment and Universal Music Group was very difficult to find but we made it happen. This portion of the project was very interesting to research about such as the different types of distribution techniques and how these artists engage with their target audience.

StoryBoard/Music Video Planning:

In the storyboard, we have all the shots that we will be hoping to use in the music video. We are currently halfway through the music video and this storyboard really helped us get through it with ease as we already had an idea of what we are looking to film. the most challenging part within the storyboard was the beginning and thinking of what the first shot is going to be. I feel that the first shot of a music video is very key as it really sets the tone of the video, and if the first shot isn't good then you will immediately lose the viewers' attention. We chose 3 places to film our Promotional Music Video. These 3 places were: Vista View Park, Markham Park, and Town Center. We chose these 3 places as Markham Park and Vista View Park have a lot of nature and we will be incorporating a nature aspect into our music video. We chose town center as the third spot, as we will be using the alley ways and lighting from the streetlights to really define the quality of our production. This portion of the project so far has been my favorite as the planning and storyboard for the music video gave us a clear view of what the certain types of shots we will be using. We also are applying the psychology of color in our film to enhance the viewing part of the video to send certain emotions toward the audience such as Neutral colors, and we will be trying to use Violets within our film to give off a mystic/prestige vibe of the lead singer in the music video.
