After hours planning this I’ve realized some things in life don’t always go as planned and you need failure to get to where you need to go in life.

Filming Process Begins!

I just recently started getting back on the field with my team after going through an injury. I will be filming the next home game that they have, I already got the clubs permission however I would like to rent out a professional camera instead of just using my iPhone. Using a professional camera will allow me to capture the highest quality possible and make the documentary seem much better.

I started to film parts of the training session however a mistake that I made was not getting better behind the scenes footage for the blog to show the process better. I will make sure to do that next time. The process went well however I feel like I should get better angles and ask my coach if I can go on the field during training and get closer shots instead of filming only from the outside of the field. I haven't been able to film an actual game yet, but the training footage will be good for some B-roll and the preparations leading up to the game. The next game is this week and if anything goes wrong like a last-minute plan, I will stick with filming the scrimmages on Wednesdays which are like practice games before the weekend games.

The interviews are all lined up for next week as I will be interviewing my coach, the captain and 1 other player on the team and if not, I will interview the director of Weston FC.

Print Component Research

For the print component I will be using Canva for my template and in this post I will be researching the Print Component for my portfolio. In class we were shown different student examples on their print component and this really helped me get visual representation on what it should look like. Since my project is a sports documentary I will be creating a 2 page article to illustrate the magazine conventions.

Why am I researching print? I am doing so I will be able to show my ability to analyze my piece from different perspectives and write about my decision-making during the process.

The Last Dance (Michael Jordan Documentary)
summary of content"The Last Dance" is a documentary series directed by Jason Hehir that goes over the career of basketball icon Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls' journey for a sixth NBA championship in the 1997-1998 season. The print component for this documentary includes promotional posters, magazine advertisements, and merchandise designs.

Analysis of technique: The print materials for "The Last Dance" reflect the intensity and drama of Jordan's career and the Bulls' dynasty. The posters often feature iconic images of Jordan in action such as the one shown in this blog. It's also shown with quotes and statistics highlighting his legendary status in the sport. The use of bold letters captures the energy of basketball and conveys the documentary's theme of triumph and perseverance. Additionally, the advertisements promote Jordan's global appeal and cultural impact to attract a wide audience, by striking visuals and intriguing narratives to give off a sense of nostalgia and excitement.

How this inspires me: The print materials for "The Last Dance" inspire me with their ability to encapsulate the passion and excitement of basketball and celebrate the greatness of Michael Jordan. As I work on my portfolio project, which is a soccer documentary, I aim to try and capture the dynamic design and storytelling techniques seen in these advertisements to create compelling visuals that resonate with audiences but in a soccer version such as a person celebrating a goal or a slide tackle which shows emotion to the audience.

Diego Maradona (2019)
Summary of content: "Diego Maradona" is a documentary directed by Asif Kapadia that explores the life and career of Argentine soccer legend Diego Maradona. The film dives deep into Maradona's rise to fame, his controversial moments, and his enduring legacy in the world of football. Analysis of Techniques: The print materials for "Diego Maradona" capture the essence of Maradona's enigmatic personality and his impact on the sport of soccer. The posters often feature iconic photographs of Maradona on the field, juxtaposed with evocative imagery that reflects his tumultuous journey from rags to riches. The use of bold colors and dynamic compositions conveys the intensity and passion of Maradona's playing style, while subtle details and textures add depth and authenticity to the visuals. Additionally, the advertisements leverage Maradona's status as a cultural icon to evoke nostalgia and intrigue, employing captivating taglines and provocative imagery to draw viewers into his captivating story.

How this inspires me: The print materials for "Diego Maradona" inspires me with the ability to capture the complexity and personality of a sports legend through the visuals and storytelling. As I develop my portfolio project, I aspire to use the same level of creativity and emotional representations in my project, aiming to create visuals that resonate with audiences and leave a lasting impression. With the Maradona documentary as an example, this can help me see the techniques used to develop the character's personality within my film and introduce a main character. This documentary being a soccer one is also very helpful as I can see what shots are best to use on the field and what angles to use to capture the best moments.

Final Change for my Documentary

After realizing talking with my group members and my teacher, I realized that I should stick with the Soccer documentary however I will shift my focus to club team instead of my high school soccer team. This change will make me much more comfortable as I love soccer and creating a documentary about the sport will make me have fun and enjoy the production of my project process. I will start this week planning the interview dates. and hopefully I will be able to finalize my interviews and start getting ready to pick a game to film which will be a home game here at Weston Regional Park. I will be filming either the Weston FC u19 MLSNext team or the Weston FC u19 reserves team depends which coach allows me to film. I am currently injured so I haven't been able to attend the practices to ask and will do it next week as I've been doing recovery with my atheltic trainer to help me get back on the field and that's when I am going to ask the coach if I can film the next upcoming game.

Overall, I am very excited and happy to be able to film a sports documentary as I love soccer and creating content. I will be starting to get my interview questions ready by this week and by next week I will have the outline of the documentary with the storyboard.

Class Discussion

Today in class we did group discussions. This was very helpful to everyone in my group as we gave helpful feedback on their projects so far and what can make them better. I learned that I am very far behind with my project but this is mainly because of how invested I was with my original idea with the states documentary. My group was Riley, Bailey, Nati, Luiza, Cindy and Male. All of them are doing very good on their projects so far and they gave a really good outline of their work so far.

Since im a little bit behind of everyone else they recommended me that I finalize my story line and my idea. At first I wanted to just rush things and try to just get it done however my group members helped me take a step back and realize that in order to get this project done I need to have a solid idea before I can go ahead and do my script, digital and print media conventions for my project.
