Research: Color Schemes
Instead of researching other sports documentaries as I posted on my project timeline, I will be researching color schemes which is way more exciting ha ha ha. Many people might not think much about the decision of colors in an opening film but what if I told you that there is actually a psychological understanding of colors and the type of emotion that it conveys. In my film trailer, I will be using psychologically proven color schemes that represent what is being shown on the screen. For example we will be looking at the color Red, and Blue.
The color red in cinema is closely associated with war, danger, strength, power, determination. The costume design of spiderman represent perfectly what his character portrays which is a determined character who is constantly finding himself in battles against much tuffer opponents. However, red in cinematography also represent passion, and love for someone.
The use of red in the background of this scene represent loves and passiong for one another as we see the two kissing each other. Most regular people would see this scene and have a cognitive thought process associated with red and it being related to love and danger. In many films, the color red has been used to associate with both of these concepts. In my overall film opening My group and I will be deeply considerate about our color schemes and the psychological thought process behind every color in our film.
Just by looking at this picture, one can assume that this guy is living a very depressed and sad life with the darkish blue color scheme. darker color blues in cinema usually represent poverty, depression, sadness and different forms of low self-esteem. If this picture had its normal lighting with just white, then this guy would not appear to look depressed and poor. The person who directed this lighting scheme planned this out to give the representation of the quality of this man's life.
My overall decision in choosing these two colors is to show the difference between concepts of reality that can alter the perceptions of how a person views a certain scene. With these colors researched, I will be implementing psychological color elements that can help enhance the representation of my groups film opening and this makes the viewer sympathize for the main character. This will help with my comedy film trailer as we will use the color red when mentioning love or passion, and light blue when something depressing is going on even though this isn't used much in comedy films it's still good to know what this color signifies.
